If you have Photoshop or Fireworks you can Modify the image size (change resolution to 72 and resize the pixel dimensions). Save it as a jpg (photos, gradients) or gif (line art with lots of solid color areas).

You can also do this within Dreamweaver. Watch the Video Demonstration or follow the steps below.

  1. Just insert the image on the page, select it and click and drag the little box on the bottom right corner while you hold the shift key (so it doesn't distort).  If the file is huge like yours, you will probably have to do this a few times. 
  2. Once it is the size you want,  click the Resample button in the bottom right of the property inspector.  This will change the file size so it will download faster.
