Introduction
Online content corresponds to face-to-face lecture, demonstrations,
or reading assignments: it is how we usually first present concepts and
skills to students. For
this assignment, you need to create a brief (5-10 minutes) narrated
Powerpoint presentation, a video tutorial, or a Web page or Word document.
You will need a microphone
to create a narrated online presentation (I use a $10
Labtec microphone).
Here are some tips to consider:
- Keep presentations concise. If you do a Web page, break up
the text with subtitles.
- Include an introduction to
clarify the purpose and relevance of the presentation.
- Include examples, images, links, and/or stories to
help make your presentation interesting and useful.
- Include a summary or conclusion to restate the most important points.
- Before you begin, browse A
Berkeley Compendium of Suggestions for Teaching with Excellence & see
if you can find any tips relevant to your presentation objectives. Try
a few suggestions!
- Use the notes feature of PowerPoint to create a transcript for deaf
students. You can quickly publish an Web version of your PowerPoint
slides that includes the notes
(File -> Save
as WebPage).
What to Do
PowerPoint
- Identify an existing PowerPoint Presention or create
one.
- There are several ways to narrate a PowerPoint presentation
online and get it online.
- The easiest way is to just create your narrations
within PowerPoint using Insert -> Audio in
the menu. Then you can just Save in a web format. Here
are some video tutorials to demonstrate:
- Once your presentation is created, you will need to upload it
to your Web site and link to it from WebCT or Blackboard.
- Submit a document to Blackboard that explains where I can find your
presentation.
Web page, video, or Word Document
- Once your web page, document, or video is created, you will need
to upload it to your Web site or CMS and link to it from WebCT or Blackboard.
- Submit a document to Blackboard that explains where I can find your presentation.
Submitting work
- Create a Word document that explains where to find
your presentation. Submit this document to Blackboard.
