Introduction

This assignment will give you some practice with design and exporting and implementing graphics in Dreamweaver. All of your semester work will be showcased on this site, so make sure your design is simple and uses a neutral palette and an expandable design. Here are some examples from the end of the semester (note that these are not complete - instructions were different for these semesters).

Your site will include 4 pages that link to each other:

  1. homework.htm - examples of your class work
  2. links.htm - web design links that you gather through the semester and optional commentary
  3. bio.htm - a bit of information about you and your thoughts about web design
  4. notes.htm - notes for each chapter of assigned reading. (Answer questions in schedule.)

What to Do

  1. Use Dreamweaver to create a simple homework page with file named 217homework.htm217homework.htm (and all other files) should be saved into a folder called local_root. If you are taking another Web course this semester, keep everything for this class in its own 217 folder within local_root. As you build your site, keep your files organized.
  2. Create and export a title graphic for 217homework.htm. Choose an interesting font, include your name in the title, and be sure to use at least one special effect. Make sure this image is less than 700 pixels wide and 200 pixels high. Export this image as a GIF or JPEG and insert it near the top of 217homework.htm.
  3. Open the logo and title files you created in projects 1-2 and export the files in the appropriate Web format and resolution.
  4. Insert your logo and title images into 217homework.htm.
  5. Create a second page for links and notes: 217links.htm. You will use this page to save links to useful web sites you discover through the semester and any comments you have. You could think of it as a sort of online journal or blog or just a list of links.
  6. Create a third page for links and notes: 217bio.htm. Use this page to write a short bio about yourself, your interests, and your philosophy of web design. Write with potential employers and clients in mind.
  7. Follow the Lynda.com video instructions to create graphics for a rollover buttons (home, links, about). Then program the rollover in Dreamweaver using Insert -> Image Objects --> Rollover Image. Make sure you copy the image files into your local root folder and upload them. Use the image files to make links on each page.
  8. Upload your site to the studentweb folder. Read the 212 site management handout if needed.
    host: studentweb.gcccd.net
username: your college account user name (usually firstlast)
password: your college account password (usually 6-digit birthday)
