Introduction

example of animated adYou've been asked to make an animated Web advertisement.  People will only look at a banner ad for a few seconds, so your ad should be eye-catching and easy to read with a quickly paced animation.  Your best bet is to keep the message simple (like a billboard) and try to include something to get people to click. Your final banner advertisement should be no larger than 700 pixels wide and 200 pixels high so it can fit at the top of a Web page or within a 200-pixel side column (smaller is better).

What to Do

  1. Research banner ads on the web. What gets your attention? What is annoying? Pick a banner ad and share the URL and a brief review on the Blackboard discussion or in class.

  2. Pick a topic and sketch out a rough draft that of your layout and message.

  3. Use Fireworks to make an animated ad. Your banner ad should include text, vector and/or bitmap graphics, and animation.

  4. If the animated part of your ad is small, you can put it in a slice to make download time faster.

  5. Export your ad (images and html) to a folder called "bannerad" in your local_root folder and upload it to the studentweb server.

  6. Open your homework page and link to your banner ad html page.

Submitting work

To turn this in, make a link to your banner ad page from 217homework.htm. Upload your work to the studentweb server and submit your URL to Blackboard.
