CIS 213: Troubleshooting Dreamweaver MX 2004 Database Integration Problems

General Troubleshooting Strategies

Since databse integration requires a number of separate technologies to work, the best strategy is to test frequently.  Test connections and recordsets and test pages by using the preview feature (F12).

To see details about your error (including line numbers), use the Live Data button to preview your page. Sometimes Dreamweaver adds in duplicate ASP code, and that is fairly easy to diagnose and fix.  Scroll down to Common Errors for details.

If you cannot see your tables info, you have to follow these instructions.

If you are working in a CIS lab, you have to set up your site definition every time to go into class, so be sure to test after you set up and DOUBLE CHECK the testing server settings.  One frequent mistake is to neglect to add the user name in the URL prefix

Common Errors

Dreamweaver sometimes inserts duplicate code.  When you use the Live Data View button, for example, you may get a message like this:

Live Data Error message

When you look at the code, you will see that the first line of code is duplicated.  Once you remove the duplicate line, everything should work.
