Brief Description

Advanced Web Development covers advanced Web design and production using Macromedia Dreamweaver CS4. The course includes Dreamweaver database integration (with PHP/MySQL), CSS layout, forms, Dreamweaver libraries, and Dreamweaver behaviors. Students need to understand how to use Dreamweaver (site manager, code viewer, how to make links, etc.) and should be able to create a database using Microsoft Access.  See entry skills for a list of skills covered in CIS 212.  See the syllabus for detailed course information.  If you have Access experience but have not completed the CIS 140 recommended prerequisite, contact me to find out if you have enough experience to succeed.

See Welcome Video for overview.

Learn Online or Face-to-Face

CIS 213 is offered online and face-to-face (with 2 online hours per week).  I will teach both the face-to-face section and the online sections in the Spring 2009 semester.

Online students need to have access to a reliable computer with Dreamweaver CS3 or CS4 and a high bandwidth Internet connection. See How an Online Class Works for details.

Spring 2009

Spring classes begin January 26. Check back just before the semester begins for orientation information and updated syllabus.

The face-to-face class will meet on Thursdays from 6:00 - 9:00 PM with 2 online instructional hours per week.  Online students are encouraged to attend the face-to-face class whenever they would like some in-person help.

Textbooks - available at the campus bookstore or online

Dreamweaver textbook - to be announced

Lynda.com video training - to be announced.

ONLINE STUDENTS

Here's what you can do in January before class begins:

Blackboard is used for class management (quizzes, grades, turning in work, discussion), so part of the online orientation assignment is to do some things in Blackboard.  Blackboard accounts are set up the weekend before classes begin. All course Web pages link to the Blackboard login.  Let me know if you are unable to log in to Blackboard after the first day of class with your college user name (usually first.last) and PIN (usually 6-digit birthday).

It will probably take a few weeks to get used to how I do things.  Plan to spend a little extra time at first and don't hesitate to email or stop in during office hours if you feel lost.   That's why I get the big bucks.  :-)
