Introduction
For the final project, you may research a topic of your choice OR create a database driven site.
This is your chance to research a burning question or apply your database integration skills
with a topic of your choice (subject to instructor approval).
Your site can be simple, but should be attractive and usable. I
expect you to include a project home
page that clarifies the purpose of the site, clear navigation, and a
footer on each page (your name and e-mail address, links to CIS dept. & 213
course site). Your
site should demonstrate Krug's usability principles and should include
an external CSS and libraries.
What to Do
-
Choose a project topic. Here are some ideas:
| Dynamic site |
Research project |
- blog-type application (build and display)
- poll/survey
- shopping cart
- home page builder with login
- jobs database for career center
- scholarships database
- news and events section of main page
- WebThang tutorials has
instructions for some of these (and more) -- see the Dreamweaver
MX section. Browsing WebThang is OPTIONAL, but it's a
great way to get ideas and a little guidance.
|
- survey local web developers and find out what's needed to get a job
- research shopping carts
- choose a topic on Lynda.com
- research web hosting services
- propose your own idea
|
-
Post your topic idea to Blackboard discussion
for approval if
you select your own topic.
- Figure out a plan for your project. Get
out some paper and draw an outline or flow chart to help you figure
out what pages and data you will need to make it work. A research project needs to include your question, sources, and a conclusion.
You
should have least 4 of the following if you do a database integrated project.
- list records
- detail
- add record
- edit record
- search
- For Dynamic site: develop your database, make sure it is in the database
folder (so permissions will allow ASP to write to the database),
and upload your database.
NOTES: Your database field names should follow the conventions
shown in your textbook (no spaces, begin with character, etc.).
- Create your pages, using libraries for common elements
(footer) and CSS for presentation formatting.
- Upload and test your pages.
Submitting work
- Add a link to this assignment from 213homework.htm.
- Upload your files to the cis2 server. Don't
forget to TEST YOUR WORK on the server!
- Submit your URL to
Blackboard.
