What is Israeli Dance?
Israeli dance is dance that has been choreographed to anything from traditional Jewish music to contemporary Latin songs. Within Israeli dance one might find elements from the Romanian horo, the Arab debka, traditional Yemenite life cycle celebrations, or perhaps from the Klezmer music and dancing of Eastern European Jews. Many new dances have movements that are more modern, borrowed from swing or salsa or even hip-hop. Dances are done in circles, lines, or as couples.
Learning the over 5,000 modern and classic Israeli dances requires patience, practice, and determination, but the effort is rewarded with great joy and the process is FUN.
