Seashells.net is has shells and rescources for collectors, arts and crafts lovers, jewelry makers, and beachcombers.

Poseiden's Treasures

Seashells are wonderful examples of nature's handiwork, exquisitely merging form and function in a myriad of colors, patterns, shapes and sizes that compose the home and fortress of a soft-bodied marine creature. Seashells are found throughout the world's oceans, washed up on beaches, deposited in tidepools, or cloaked beneath the waves in near-shore shallows, on coastal reefs, and extending down to the abyssal depths.

Humans have collected seashells throughout history for use as ornaments, as tools, as curiosities, and even as currency. Serious collectors search out specimen-grade shells, which they catalog and meticulously store or display. Casual beachcombers may collect a pocketful of shells, which are tossed in a shoebox at home, or scattered on a windowsill. Part of the economy of Niihau, smallest of the populated Hawaiian Islands, depends on a tiny shell about the size of a grain of rice called a wart turban, which Niihau residents collect and string into prized shell leis that are sold to tourists for hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the other islands.
