Brief Description
CIS 212 covers design and production of Web sites using Adobe Dreamweaver, an industry standard application for Web development. Past students describe the class as exciting and rewarding.
Here are examples of recent student work.
Learn Online or Face-to-Face
CIS 212 is offered online and face-to-face. Jodi Reed will teach the online section and the Tuesday face-to-face hybrid section in the spring 2012 semester.
Online students need to have access to a reliable computer with a broadband Internet connection and Dreamweaver CS5.5 (CS5 and CS4 are allowed, but it will be up to you to adapt). See How an Online Class Works for details.
Jodi uses Moodle for class management (quizzes, grades, turning in work, discussion). Moodle accounts are set up the weekend before classes begin. All course Web pages link to the Moodle login. Let Jodi know if you are unable to log in to Moodle after the first day of class with your college user name (usually first.last) and password usually 6-digit birthday.
Spring 2012
Spring classes begin January 23. The course materials will be ready once the semester begins. Please send me an email once you enroll. I'll send a welcome email with instructions once the semester begins, so let me know if you don't get instructions by January 23rd. The welcome email is sent from Moodle to the email address you provided to WebAdvisor.
See the WebAdvisor Waitlist FAQ page for details about the wait list process.
If you feel frustrated with the class section cuts, contact your legislators to let them know how the budget cuts have affected your education.
Here's what you can do in JANUARY before class begins:
- Add the course if you have not done so. Please do this ASAP -- this will add you to the roster. You cannot add the class late. Use WebAdvisor to add this class.
- Send Jodi an e-mail after you enroll
- Please confirm your WebAdvisor email address. (Do you need to see how to change your WebAdvisor address?)
- Complete the student information form
- Purchase textbooks and start reading
- ONLINE STUDENTS:
- Purchase and install Dreamweaver CS5.5 (see collegebuys.org for academic pricing). YOU MUST HAVE ACCESS TO DREAMWEAVER CS5.5 or CS5 TO COMPLETE THIS CLASS! Some students use campus labs, but most install on their own computers.
- Install Firefox - (free download at mozilla.com ). Please do not disable Cookies, JavaScript, and Java
- Schedule 5-9 hours a week to complete class work.
- After class begins, login to Moodle and complete the ONLINE ORIENTATION and do everything listed in WEEK 1 of the schedule. You'll get instructions in the welcome email.

It will probably take a few weeks to get used to how things are done. Plan to spend a little extra time at first and don't hesitate to email or stop in during office hours if you feel lost.
CIS 212 is part of a Web Development Major at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon, California. We also offer certificates in Web Design and Web Programming.
